Wendy N. Albert
Hi, I'm Wendy! I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, with an insatiable desire to see others win at life. I firmly believe that we all have innate gifts, talents, passion that lead us to our purpose.
I'm living my purpose, and I am very proud
of what I have achieved in my life and even more
thrilled that I have done it my way!
I love the cybersecurity field; it offers a plethora of opportunities for engineers to grow and learn various technical tools within the field of study, and I'm determined to master it all! My passion for cybersecurity developed during my senior year of high school.
I became very interested in studying forensic science and solving crimes on the web. Over time, my focus shifted to cryptography and deciphering code to help solve crimes such as digital forensics. The IT field is constantly developing, with the IT world providing a gateway to learn something new every day.
After graduating from undergrad, I went through what is known as post-graduation depression. Post-graduation often sneaks upon us. I was so focused on reaching my goals that I didn't see it coming. I've since learned not to be so hard on myself because, honestly, no one sees it coming. Out of nowhere, many graduates experience unexplainable sadness, decreased motivation, and a disconnect from their previous life. Most college students tend to set graduation as their primary goal, so we do everything to ensure that we pass but forget how important it is to prepare ourselves for the real world and land that dream job we have always longed for. Unfortunately, I, too, was one of those students.
After being turned down for multiple job positions that I knew I qualified for, frustration and discouragement overwhelmingly set in. It was disheartening to be overlooked for lack of experience, told I was overqualified because I earned a college degree, or just the opposite, the job required education beyond a Bachelor's degree. Constantly being overlooked, discouraged, and frustrated are the main reasons many graduates give up on their dreams and end up settling for whatever comes their way.
But, not me; giving up isn't in my DNA. Instead, my no's only made me more determined to succeed. My experiences sparked a fire inside me to create Onyx Cyber, a network to help prepare young people seeking jobs in this dog-eat-dog world.
With Onyx Cyber, I want to give others the access I was not afforded when I was ready to start my career.
I never gave up on myself, and I want others to do the same!
My educational journey began by graduating from West Brook High School in 2015. I then completed my undergraduate career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in December of 2018.
A short semester later, in August 2019, I was accepted into North Carolina's Agricultural & Technical State University to pursue my graduate degree in Information Technology with a Certificate in Cybersecurity. I was honored to serve as a Graduate Assistant for the Computer Systems Technology department during my graduate career and proud to be inducted into the Epsilon Pi Tau Gamma Beta Chapter. I became an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) while maintaining full-time employment in the IT world as a Cyber Systems Engineer.
In May of 2021, I graduated from the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
with a Masters of Science in Information Technology
with a Certificate in Cybersecurity. Can I get an #AGGIE PRIDE?!
As you can see, grass will never have the chance to grow under my feet. I am a natural-born leader that never backs down from a challenge. I know what I want, and I am willing to put in the work to accomplish my goals. My goal is to develop Onyx Cyber into a "Goal-Mine" that changes the working environment, one client at a time. There are so many job opportunities available, but unfortunately, our community is missing out due to a lack of resources. I want to change that. Onyx Cyber will change that. Together, we will achieve results that bridge what is with what can be. I'm excited to develop a platform that will change the game for up-and-coming engineers. If I can do it, you can too!
